Borderlines 04:51
On the sidewalk Looking up and down the walls You can see a reflection there Of your dream life So close and so far away from where you are Your true desire is burning bright through space and time It's right across Right across the borderline At the first light You paint a picture on the wall Of you and the love you want But in hindsight It was foolish to sit and wait For it to come around The dream you hide deep inside is burning bright And it's right across Right across the borderline For the last time You pull a picture from the wall Moving on with nostalgic grace Another landslide of emotion for all you want When will it come around The dream you hide deep inside is burning bright It's right across Right across the borderline It's right across Right across the borderline

Automatic 04:30
Visitor day Driving me insane Locked down in a prison Every day is the same ‘Til a beautiful world Comes back into vision Through the glass I find An emotional climb Holiday in a kind of magic For a time burdens of my life Slowly fade deep into a vision In your eyes In your eyes It’s automatic when you’re around I feel your static pick me up from the ground It’s automatic when you’re around Like an addict I’m feeling up when I’m down Passenger side Of a rocket in flight You take me high into visions Until I open my eyes To a beautiful rope Hanging down from the ceiling Contemplating the time 30 to life All my days sinking into tragic All around men like me inside Start to see all is algorithm By design By design Holiday in a kind of magic For a time burdens of my life Slowly fade deep into a vision In your eyes In your eyes It’s automatic when you’re around I feel your static pick me up from the ground It’s automatic when you’re around Like an addict I’m feeling up when I’m down Feeling up when I’m down It’s automatic It’s automatic

True Belief 03:18
In a desperate world I learned to take more than I give Until your healing hand Convinced my bitter heart To believe in something more True belief in something more than myself In my desperate heart I found only a selfish want Just one touch from your healing hand Taught this bitter man To believe in something more True belief in something more Than myself Than myself Than myself

Villain 05:28
Peeling skin away from drunken eyes I see a screen display the passing time Picture of an island scene Reminds me of an ancient dream All the places I've never seen I've never seen Every day I make a bigger better plan As the years pour through my empty hands Like a 50s TV scene Housewife with her magazine Dreaming of who she'll never be I shake my head in wonder every night How I came to be the villain of my own life Jealous rage every day Children looking forward to their happy times I only look behind Pills and cigarettes Numbing the faint regret called my life I shake my head in wonder every night How I came to be the villain of my own life I shake my head in wonder every night How I came to be the villain of my own life

What You See 03:51
I’ve been alone for so many nights The shadows on my empty walls begin to come alive Demons and frogs start repeating I could learn to heal if I learn to say How I feel today But you laugh at me and say It doesn’t matter at all Doesn’t matter at all Doesn’t matter at all if we begin to fall Trapped in a beautiful maze A soft and lovely cage Surrounded by animals who teach me ancient ways Sometimes I don’t know where I am Or who I’m supposed to be But I can try to understand if you tell me what you see Cuz I’ve been alone for so many years It’s hard to separate the world from the visions in my head If we’re in love, it’s time to reveal it Some words can bare repeating all the night and day But you laugh at me and say Does it matter at all It doesn’t matter at all Doesn’t matter at all if we begin to fall Doesn’t matter at all Doesn’t matter at all It doesn’t matter at all if we begin to fall If we begin to fall If we begin to fall

Moonlight 05:31
See the colors of a lonely star Swallowed into darkness of the night Then like a new sun in the sky Slowly reappear as you arrive Can you see the light tonight Is it in your eyes Or all in my mind Like every time Every color lives today Until it fades away in moonlight Moonlight I’m a leaf caught in the tide Only crumbling dreams to call a home Making light of our fleeting time But the moments mean more than I show Can you see the light tonight Is it in your eyes Or all in my mind Like every time Every color lives today Until it fades away in moonlight Moonlight Can you see the light tonight Is it in your eyes Or all in my mind Like every time Every color lives today Until it fades away in moonlight Moonlight

Time Machine 05:54
Medicine is finally kicking in Stepping on an empty vial The crackle makes you smile Before it gets too late Let’s take a needle into space Landing in an ancient time When tomorrow was alive Imagine in the end If we could start again Middle school or even the womb We wouldn’t grow too soon Some day Some day I’m gonna build a time machine Take you to my favorite scene Some way Some way When the perfect day comes to an end We’ll make it live again 11:49 Flashing in our eyes Another day we spent in bed Drunken stories in our heads Remembering a friend How he lived until the end Countin’ bottles one by one Until the day was gone Imagine if a friend If he were born again Dancing on the hands of time Second chance to get it right Imagine in the end If we could start again Middle school or even the womb We wouldn’t grow too soon Some day Some day I’m gonna build a time machine Take you to my favorite scene Some way Some way When the perfect day comes to an end We’ll make it live again

about

When the pandemic shutdown began in NYC, I realized I had to focus my attention on a new project to hold some semblance of sanity. It was a dark, lonely time for a lot of us. I wanted to find a way to express that musically through intimate, personal vocals in a cold context of synthesizers, drum machines, and electric guitars. I wanted to make an album that felt like an embrace of isolation, of being brutally honest with yourself about who you are right now.

At the time of recording, I had on heavy rotation a number of albums which all debuted in 1983—including Tears for Fears' The Hurting, The The's Soul Mining, and New Order's Power, Corruption and Lies.

I recorded it in my apartment in Brooklyn and my rehearsal studio, using electric and acoustic guitars, midi controllers and synths, acoustic and electronic percussion, and various microphones.
